![]() With OS X 10.9, Apple has decided to shift their focus away from big cats to places within California, with the first in the new series being Mavericks.Īpple unveiled their new naming scheme at their World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC) keynote on June 10th, 2013. These names are, in order of appearance: Cheetah, Puma, Jaguar, Panther, Tiger, Leopard, Snow Leopard, Lion, and Mountain Lion. Since the initial unveiling of OS X 10.0 Cheetah back in 2001, Apple has used the names of big cats for their releases. Of course, right alongside OS X 10.9 Mavericks Client, Apple has released OS X 10.9 Mavericks Server, and some of the OS X 10.9 Mavericks Server changes will be big for developers. Some of these features will be very apparent, like Maps, while others will be hidden within the background and will help improve battery life. OS X 10.9 Mavericks builds on the existing OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion and adds some new features. ![]() Apple has released their tenth iteration of OS X, called OS X 10.9 Mavericks.
